Sanjana Chauhan, a class XI student of Noida’s Amity International School, while teaching a few students from a school located in the city’s slum area, noticed that two boys could not see anything on the blackboard. This led her to initiate “DRISHTI” – a campaign focused on promoting eye care and eyesight check-ups for the underprivileged sections of the society, with an aim to raise awareness for eye care and bring tangible change in the society
Sanjana’s mission is to enhance people’s understanding of eye health, emphasising upon the importance of regular eye check-ups, proper eye care practices and most importantly, providing spectacles to children who cannot afford them. Under this campaign, free eye check -up camps are set up at different NGOs and schools, where the eyes of children are tested, and they are provided free spectacles.
In the last two years, Sanjana has been able to raise five lakh rupees for conducting eye camps which has benefitted 8,000 underprivileged children across Delhi NCR, creating a significant impact on the society. In the next phase of her campaign, she intends to provide assistance to those who need surgery for their eyes.
“This project is very close to my heart so I want to continue this in the future even when I’m older and studying in college. We have set many eye camps so the next step would be upgrading the existing facilities to be able to handle eye surgeries including cataract surgeries,” says Sanjana.
