Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on Sunday that the state government is considering the establishment of three separate directorates of education.
While laying the foundation stone for the Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School in his home constituency of Nadaun, Hamirpur district, the Chief Minister stated that the proposed directorates would focus on education for pre-primary to class 2, class 3 to 12, and undergraduate students.
Sukhu emphasized that a decision on this proposal would be made in the near future. He also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing quality education, particularly for children attending government schools in rural areas. The construction of Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools has already commenced in 10 assembly constituencies across the state.
The Chief Minister pointed out that the previous BJP government had opened 600 schools without proper staffing provisions. His government has thus decided to ensure adequate staff is available before opening additional schools. Sukhu further mentioned that in the last two years, the state government has sanctioned 11,833 posts in the education department.
In addition to the education initiatives, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation for a bridge over Maseh Khad, which will cost Rs 5.11 crore. This bridge has been a long-standing demand of the local population since 1970 and will connect remote areas of Nadaun and Jaswan Pragpur constituencies. It will benefit approximately 10,000 people from four gram panchayats in Nadaun, two in Una, and six in Kangra district.
The new bridge is expected to reduce the travel distance between Nadaun and Bangana by 7.5 km and between Nadaun and Peer Saluhi by 6 km.
