HITS- Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science is a private deemed-to-be-university founded in 1985 by Dr. K.C.G. Verghese. Conferred the Deemed University status from the University Grants Commission Under Section 3 of UGC Act 1956 from the academic year 2008-09 and under the name HITS (Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science), it is a member of the Hindustan Group of Institutions which also includes the Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology, KCG College of Technology, Hindustan College of Arts and Science and more. The institute offers a variety of UG, PG, integrated and doctoral courses in the fields of engineering, management, science, arts, and commerce.
The HITS campus houses a library with a collection more than 1 lakh books, 42,262 online journals and several newspapers, theses, dissertations and project reports. Laboratory facilities are provided for computer, information technology, physics, chemistry, civil engineering, electrical and electronics, mechanical, robotics, app development aeronautical and automobile engineering. The institute also provides a shuttle service operating a 50-bus fleet to be used on excursions and industrial visits.
Sports facilities on campus include courts and provisions for badminton, basketball, cricket, football, tennis, horse riding, cycling, boxing, martial arts (karate), volleyball, throwball, athletics, aerobics, table tennis, billiards and snooker.
The campus also houses hostel facilities for students, equipped with furnishings and modern amenities including round-the-clock security, communication and dispensary facilities.

The HITS placement cell helps students be market-ready by organising personality development workshops to equip them with the necessary soft skills required to beat the stringent selection process. The students are exposed to intensive training for acquiring communication, motivation and leadership skills, gaining essential inputs in goal setting and team building. They also undergo case study analysis, extempore, group discussion and personal interview session. More than two thousand students of pre-final and final year undergraduate and postgraduate programs are benefited from these workshops every year.
The Placement Office of the University provides equal opportunity to all enrolled students to attend campus interviews conducted for leading companies, do in-plant training and prepare the students to excel in aptitude test, group discussions and interviews.

Placement Highlights- 2020: The 2020 placement percentage stood at 61.35%, the median CTC for CSE engineering being INR 4.9 LPA. Top recruiters included Amazon, Accenture, IBM, Air India and Audi.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked HITS Chennai 107 among engineering colleges in 2020.
Hindustan Institute of Science & Technology houses separate hostels for boys and girls which are equipped with furnishings and modern amenities including round-the-clock security, communication and dispensary facilities.
Each hostel room has restrooms attached to it, while spacious and hygienic dining halls are provided to cater to students’ needs. Academic and personal problems of resident students are addressed by resident staff members.
