HP: Government to launch awards for exceptional teachers and school heads

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on Monday that the state government will soon introduce awards to recognize teachers and school heads for their outstanding contributions to the education sector.

The awards aim to encourage people to pursue teaching careers, adopt best practices in teaching and learning, and enhance the reputation of educators within the community, he said.

According to a statement, 24 teachers will be awarded in two categories: general areas, and tribal and hard areas. Fifteen awards will be given to teachers in general areas, and nine to those in tribal and hard areas, the chief minister stated.

Additionally, the government will present six special awards to teachers who have made exceptional contributions to innovation, implementation of state flagship programs, and special initiatives. The number of these special awards may vary annually, he added.

Eligible candidates for the special awards include teachers working in District Institutes of Education and Training, the State Council of Educational Research and Training, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan.

Award recipients will be selected based on recommendations from a state-level committee established under the State Award Scheme, the chief minister said.

Sukhu reaffirmed the Congress government’s commitment to providing quality education to students close to their homes and facilitating foreign exposure visits for teachers to replicate best teaching practices in the state.
