Overview

The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet (estb. 1923), a co-educational day-cum-boarding CISCE school, is the state’s oldest private school. In 1919 H. Weikfield, director general of the Court of Wards (Department of Revenue) mooted a proposal to the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan, to establish a fully residential school modelled on Eton College, London, for educating sons of Jagirdars and other aristocrats.

Affiliated with the Delhi-based Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), The Hyderabad Public School Begumpet is routinely ranked among the Top 10 day-cum-boarding schools countrywide and #1 in Telangana and Hyderabad in the annual EducationWorld India School Rankings.

The Hyderabad Public School is a member of Round Square Foundation, Indian Public Schools’ Conference, , National Cadet Corps, International Award for Young People and British Council. 

Campus

Sited on a green 122-acre heritage campus in the heart of Hyderabad, The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet campus hosts contemporary infrastructure for academics, sports and co-curricular education. Academic facilities includes 120 classrooms equipped with ICT teaching-learning facilities, 10 well-equipped labs for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, common Science, Computer Science, Maths, Geography & History along with a state-of-the-art library housing 14,000 print volumes, 12 journals and 35 magazines. The campus also features a hospital and a 800-seats outdoor theatre.

Academics

Affiliated with the Delhi-based CISCE and the UK-based Cambridge Assessment (CAIE) affiliation to be obtained in 2021, The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet offers a learner-centred curriculum drawn from five major pedagogical approaches – constructivist, collaborative, integrative, reflective and inquiry-based learning. The school’s experiential learning model encourages feedback, inquiry, class discussions and group learning form an important part of the learning process.

Admission

Admission notification for The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet is published in English and vernacular newspapers in October/November every year. The application forms can be collected at the school office. Admissions to class 11 begin in May and are based on marks obtained in the class 10 board examination.

Admission in classes other than PP1 and class 11 are subject to vacancies and performance based on an entrance examination. Admission in class 10 and 12 is possible only if the previous school the students studied in, is affiliated with CISCE.

The age criteria for students seeking admission into PP1 should be minimum 3 years as of May 31 of the year of admission. The age eligibility for higher classes is calculated accordingly.

Achievement

Students of The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet have secured 100 percent results in both ICSE and ISC examinations 2019. About 239 students appeared for the ICSE board examination in March 2019 were awarded pass certificates out of which 56 students scored more than 90 percent and 164 of them secured a distinction. Udbhav Saxena topped the ICSE exams with 97.83 percent followed closely by K Malavika and Kushal Nunna with 97.5 percent and 97.1 percent respectively. Udbhav also ranked among the top 3 in the state.

Of the 56 students who appeared for the ISC Examination, Ainesh Sanyal topped in Science with 96.4 percent followed closely by Shilpika Reddy in Commerce with 96.2 percent and Rahul Jain with 96 percent. Students scored 100 percent  in Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physical Education. Ainesh stood among the top 2 in the state. 

Co-curricular achievements

The HPS Begumpet team comprising of Yashovardhan Shetty and Tarun Sepuri secured 2nd and 1st positions in the preliminary and regional rounds of the ASISC Quiz 2020. They qualified for the nationals which were held in Hyderabad where they finished 4th.  The team also secured 2nd position in the K-Circle School Quiz 2020.

At the Yuvtal Youth Fest 2018-19, held at the Little Flower High School (Abids), the HPS team of Shiva C (9G), Dheeraj K (9F) and Ankith R (8G) secured the 1st and 4th positions, in the General and Epics Quiz respectively.

At the regional round of The National Brain Bee Quiz, Isha Gandham (11B) finished 2nd among 350 participants and qualified for the nationals

AFS

As AFS member school, Pranay Burugula of class 10 and Mahesh R of class 11 were selected for a cultural exchange programme to Japan. It was a 10 day prestigious programme which gave them an opportunity to turn it into a lifelong cultural relationship.

Student Exchange

HPS students travelled to Poland as part of the European Exchange Programme in May 2018. The programme offered the students an opportunity to experience the diverse cultures of Central Europe.

NASA

70 students of HPS Begumpet visited NASA in April 2018. They also visited the Kennedy Space Centre, Brooklyn Observatory, The Empire State building and One World Observatory, to name a few.

In the CISCE, AP and Telangana Regional Sports Meet 2019-20, the HPS teams won several laurels. Among them:

Athletics

The school’s u-14, u-17, and u-19 boys and girls won 5 gold medals, 14 silver medals, 18 bronze medals, and the u-17 boys won the team championship. Lazim Afraz, M.Varun, Vishwa Teja .M, from boys u/17 team, Nitya Tadla, Ojasvi Koduru, from girls u/17, Nihal.M, Mahesh, Balaji Krishna Kumar, P.Vaibhav Kumar from boys u/19 have been selected for the CICSE Nationals.

Basketball

The school’s u-14, u-17 girls basketball teams emerged runners-up. Praharshita, Samhitha, from u/14   Ojasvi  Koduru, Nitya Tadla and Arpita Reddy from u-17  have been selected for the CISCE Nationals. Siddharth from boys u/14, Anirudh from boys u/17  and   Ghanshyam from boys u/19 have been selected for Nationals.

Chess

Ritvik from boys u/17 has been selected for the CISCE nationals.

Cricket

HPS Begumpet hosted the CISCE  u- 14, u-17, u-19 Boys Cricket Tournament in August 2019. The school’s U-14 and U-17 team were the winners of the tournament and the u-19 team was the runners-up. Pranay Kamatham, Aakash .G, Mosiwddin Mohammed, Ch.Nishant Sen Reddy, M. Charuhass Abhay, Prithi, Ramana, Gaurav, Sai Sushnith, Dhanvi, Ibrahim, Aditya, Amaan Khan, Rohit, Nihal Singh from the boys u/19 have been selected for the CISCE nationals.

Equestrian

HPS Begumpet students participated in the recent 2nd regional equestrian league and 13th Hyderabad horse show and won medals in hacks, dressage and show jumping categories.

In hacks children 1 category, Hashmit Sabharwal stood second while Mohammad Zohaib, Rishi Madhusudan and Parv Ranka shared the third place. In hacks children 2 category Sai Dhairya mani secured the third place. In hacks junior category, Saurabh Raj Purohit secured the second place while Surbhi Patny, Shaurya Singh, and Shaun Jimmy shared the third prize. In dressage children – 1 category Mohammad Ayaan stood first and in dressage children – 2 category Srivatsankit secured the second prize. Srivatsankit and Ayaan were selected for Junior National in dressage and show jumping category which will be held at Bangalore in the month of December.

Football

HPS’ u-19 boys were the winners of the competition. The u-17 boys team were the second runners-up. In the u-19 team, R.Mahesh, Sahas Tadla, Sai Sandeep Reddy, Tejas Tadla, Manideep (G.K) and in the  u-17 boys A.Kaarthikeyan, T.Emanuel Prasanna Kumar have been selected for the CISCE nationals.

Lawn Tennis

HPS’ u-17 boys team won the team championship. The u-19 boys team secured runner up, the u- 14 boys were the second runner up in the team championships. The u-14 girls bagged the second runner up.

Shooting

HPS Begumpet u-14 boys Kshirod Reddy, Alysa Ainha, Zayna Kaleem Irrfan and Prem Madhav Bali have been selected for the nationals.  In the  u-17 boys Safnan Shamsuddin Irrfan, Aarya Raj Saxena, Kaushik Gopu, Dhanush A.V.S, Swargam Sathvik, Saif Ali Khan have been selected for nationals. From the girls’ u-19 team, P Homanshika Reddy and Prapthi Linga Reddy were selected for the nationals.

Skating

HPS, Begumpet won a total of 4 medals. Nidhi Rai won 2 gold medals, Dheeraj Neeli won a bronze medal and Anirudh Neeli bagged 1 gold medal.

Swimming

HPS student Nisha Ganesh bagged four gold medals in the u-17 girls’ category. She has also been selected for the national level. In the boys u-17 category, Yuvraj Kumar Sharma bagged 6 gold medals, Avinash Kumar Sharma bagged 4 gold medals and 2 silver medals, Udit Kothari bagged 5 gold medals and one silver medal while Maharshith won 3 gold and 3 silver medals. they all have been selected for the nationals.

Table Tennis

HPS’ u-14 boys team secured the third position in the team championship. Aditya and Abhinav have been selected for the national level from this category. the u-17 team emerged as the winners in their category. In the u-17 girls individual category, Nisha Ganesh bagged an individual gold medal and has been selected for the nationals.

Volleyball

HPS’ U-17 boys team participated in the regional competition Indian Blossoms School, Ongole. HPS’ girls u-17 team were the winners while the u-19 team secured the third position. Varshini Sadhu, Keerthana, Nitya Reddy from the u-17 team and Aarthi Devi, Shriya Rao from the u-19 team have been selected to represent the state.

Accommodation

The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet campus houses hostels for 101 boarders and a 14,000 sq. ft 1,600-seats dining hall apart from a state-of-the-art 3,500 sq. ft kitchen.
