IAS officer Nitin Sangwan, the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Ahmedabad recently shared his standard 12 CBSE Board examination results on his official Twitter handle. In his result from 2002 batch, the IAS officer scored only 24 in Chemistry, and overall passed by just one mark. Later, he went on to join IIT Madras and now has a fruitful career.
Sangwan tweeted, “In my 12th exams, I got 24 marks in Chemistry – just 1 mark above passing marks. But that didn’t decide what I wanted from my life. Don’t bog down kids with burden of marks. Life is much more than board results. Let results be an opportunity for introspection & not for criticism.”

Back in february, the former chairperson of CBSE, Anita Karwal wrote a letter to the board aspirants before their exams stating that marks aren’t everything and parents shouldn’t pressurise their kids. She wrote, “Board exams do not and cannot rule your life. We adults do not get to where we are today by being good at every subject and every activity in our school days. Schooling is surely about exposure to various subjects, but it is much more about learning to become a life-long learner and about acquiring values and skills.
She also asked parents to “ensure that your child develops that confidence in your rock-solid support, if ever she needs to cope with adverse situations without being disheartened or disillusioned.”
