The five-day INSPIRE Internship Science Camp conducted by ICFAI Tech, Hyderabad and Department of Science and Technology (Government of India) concluded on Friday, January 10. Hosted at the ICFAI Tech campus located on Shankerpally Road, Hyderabad, the camp featured interactive lectures, hands-on experiments, and group discussions led by DST mentors, sparking a passion for science among students.
The DST INSPIRE Internship Science Camp at ICFAI Tech reaffirms the institute’s dedication to fostering scientific inquiry and preparing the next generation of innovators to contribute to India’s scientific and technological advancement.
During the inaugural session, chief guest Dr. Bhujanga Rao, scientist and former director of DRDO, and chairman of KIMS Foundation and Research Center, inspired the students with his thought-provoking address. He highlighted the critical role of science and technology in nation-building and encouraged students to “dream big,” quoting Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
Dr. Rao also spoke about the qualities of curiosity, creativity, and courage as essential for scientific exploration and urged students to identify the type of scientist they aspire to be.
During the valedictory session, chief guest Prof. B. S. Murty, director of IIT Hyderabad, highlighted the significance of goal-setting, unwavering commitment, and hard work. Drawing from his experiences, he illustrated how passion and perseverance can lead to remarkable achievements.
Prof. Murty also highlighted the critical role of young minds in realising a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India), urging students to align their career aspirations with the nation’s future needs. He recommended reading Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s “Ignited Minds” to inspire big dreams and the pursuit of excellence.
The Science Camp reaffirmed ICFAI Tech’s commitment to nurturing scientific curiosity and innovation. By facilitating interactions with renowned scientists and providing exposure to advanced research, the camp empowered students to envision a future where they contribute meaningfully to India’s scientific and technological progress. “The future of science lies in your hands,” said Prof. Shakeel Ahmed, a leading earth scientist and founder of the Indo-French Centre for Groundwater Research, capturing the spirit of the camp and its mission to ignite the next generation of scientific leaders. This extraordinary event will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy, shaping the future of science and innovation in India.
About 250 students from 15 colleges within the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad participated in the five-day event. The closing ceremony featured the distribution of certificates and awards. Special recognition was given to students who excelled in quizzes, lab activities, and the idea competition.
Prof. L.S. Ganesh, vice chancellor of ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education, Hyderabad, delivered the inaugural address, emphasising the importance of goal setting and fostering scientific inquiry among students to nurture their potential and drive innovation. Prof. K.L. Narayana, director of ICFAI Tech, underscored the importance of harmonising technological advancements with the timeless principles of the Indian value system, Sanatana Dharma. Dr. V. Srilalitha, principal investigator and associate professor in the Department of Chemistry, also spoke on the occasion.
