The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) cancelled the 2021 ICSE (Class X) examinations in view of the “worsening” Covid-19 pandemic in the country, according to a circular issued by the CISCE late on Monday night.

The criterion on which basis the result will be declared for the ICSE (Class X) students and the date of result declaration will be announced by the CISCE later, the circular said.

A “fair and an unbiased criterion.” will be devised for the evaluation, the CISCE said.

In a previous circular issued on April 16, the CISCE had said that ICSE students would be given two options.  The students could choose to write the offline examinations with the Class XII candidates or they could opt to not appear in the examination. If they chose to not write the test a fair and unbiased criterion would be developed for their evaluation.

In the circular issued tonight, the two options were withdrawn.

“Given the present worsening situation of the Covid-19 Pandemic in the country, the CISCE has decided to CANCEL the ICSE (Class X) 2021 Examination. The options given in the earlier Circular dated 16th April 2021,  now stands withdrawn. The safety and well being of our students and teaching faculty is our top most priority and of paramount interest,” the CISCE circular issued tonight said.

The status of ISC (Class XII) examinations  will remain the same as stated in the earlier circular issued on April 16.

The CISCE had deferred the ISC examinations and said that it would closely monitor the Covid situation and the final decision on the conduct of the examination would be taken by the first week of June.

The CISCE advised the heads of all its affiliated schools having ISC section to begin the admission process for Class XI, if they have not started till now. In addition, the CISCE also advised the schools to start preparing the schedule to begin the online classes for Class XI students at the earliest.
