The ICSE (Class X) 2022 results declared on Sunday showed that students performed better in ICSE semester 2 than semester 1, according to several schools.

For the first time, the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) conducted two exams in a year. The marks of semester 1, semester 2 and project (internal assessment) were added to arrive at the final marks in each of the subjects/papers, the council said. For the computation of the ICSE 2022 results equal weightage has been given to both semester I and semester 2 exams.

Several schools said on Sunday after the publication of the results that the consolidated marks awarded to most students are higher than their scores in the semester 1 examinations.

Students were tested only on the basis of multiple choice questions (MCQ) in the semester 1 examinations. In the semester 2 exams students had to answer MCQ, short answer and long answer questions.

“Students have performed extremely well in the semester 2 exams. There were so many disruptions due to the Covid 19. We are happy that our students have performed so well  in spite of all the difficulties,” said Ranjan Mitter of Future Foundation School Kolkata.

The results showed a “huge” rise in the number of students obtaining the first three top ranks which the council said is “encouraging”.

As many as 110 students were placed in first, second and third ranks. Never in the past, so many students were placed in the top three ranks. In Bengal 51 students were placed in the first three positions which is also a new.

The council had not published a merit list in 2020 and 2021.

This year four students stood first in the ICSE including Hargun Kaur Matharust of St. Mary’s School Pune, Anika Gupta of Sheiling House School, Kanpur, Puskkar Tripathi of Jesus and Mary School and College, Balarampur and Kanishka Mitttal of City Montessori School Kanpur scoring 99.80 per cent.

As many as 231,063 students from 2535 schools in India had appeared in the ICSE 2022 examinations.

The all-India pass percentage in the exam is  99.97 per cent.

In Bengal 40, 736 students appeared from 415 schools and the pass percentage of the state is 99.98 per cent.

Gerry Arathoon, CISCE chief executive and secretary said students had to go through difficult situations during the pandemic but students have performed well.

“Students had to write the exams in difficult situations. Classes were held mostly in online mode. The exams were conducted offline. But students have performed extremely well in the exam,” Arathoon told EducationWorld.
