Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (IIEST, Shibpur) is a public technical and research university recognised as an Institute of National Importance under MHRD by the Government of India. Situated in Shibpur, Howrah in West Bengal, it is controlled by the Council of National Institutes of Technology.
Established on 24 November 1856, it was the first college to become Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) in India in 2014. It is the third engineering college in India and 2nd oldest engineering college in India considering the year of graduation. It has 16 departments and 8 schools with over 250 faculty members and a student strength of over 4000.
The college is ranked 21st among engineering institutes by NIRF-2020.
The 123-acre campus is situated in Shibur, Howrah district of West Bengal. Campus facilities comprise the central library covering an area of 3000 square metres, catering to the research needs of students, research scholars and faculty as well as to research workers of neighbouring universities and research institutes.
The computer centre caters to the needs of the undergraduate students, containing two laboratories, each equipped with 30 Pentium-4 PCs. These are connected through LAN to a central server. The PCs are also provided with Internet facilities.
The campus also facilitates a variety of sports and activities on the Lords Ground and Oval Ground. A basketball court, swimming pool and indoor sports room are also provided to host tournaments throughout the year.
Accommodation facilities on campus comprise 17 hostels.

Placements
IIEST Shibpur offers placements to students from the B.Tech., B.Arch., B.Tech.+ M.Tech., M.Tech., M.Sc., and M.B.A. departments. Students are involved in different research projects, innovation, entrepreneurship activities and short-term courses to gather knowledge. The training and placement of the institute is controlled by the human resource department, headed by one professor, staffs and a placement adviser.
The institute organises various placement related activities throughout the year, some of which include internships, job placements, vocational training, career counselling and entrepreneurship development.

With a student population exceeding 3200, the college campus houses 17 hostels including two girls’ hostels for UG students and one girls’ hostel for PG and Research Scholars. There are nine multi-seated hostels for boys: A. C. Roy Hall (Hostel 7), D. Banerjee Hall (Hostel 8), A. K. Seal Hall (Hostel 9), Hostel 10, Hostel 11, Hostel 13 (exclusively for PG and Research Scholars), Hostel 14, Hostel 15, Hostel 16.
There are five single-seated halls for boys: Richardson Hall, Macdonald Hall, Sen Hall, Sengupta Hall, Wolfenden Hall.
