On January 16, Mumbai based CFA Society India announced Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) and Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) as North zone winners of its CFA Institute Research Challenge in India.
Six teams – from Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak, Birla Institute of Management Technology, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Faculty of Management Studies, Management Development Institute, and Indian Management Institute – participated in the final round.
The panel of judges included Anurag Jain, CFA, CIO, Canara HSBC Oriental Bank of Commerce Life Insurance Co. Ltd., Amit Khurana, CFA, Head of Research and Equities – Dolat Capital and Gaurav Kapur, CFA, VP, Public and Social Policies Management/YES Institute at Yes Bank. The teams pitched their equity research on Havells India Ltd., one of the largest electrical equipment companies in India, in a brief time-bound presentation followed by a rapid-fire round of grilling questions.
“Over the past 10 years, the CFA Institute Research Challenge India has grown to involve hundreds of students from over 50 business schools across 30 cities nationwide. The support of industry professionals who mentor and judge the teams is helping to nurture the talent pool of next generation investment professionals,” said Kishor Bagri, CFA, director, CFA Institute Research Challenge India.
The CFA Institute Research Challenge is a global educational initiative. Introduced in 2006, the annual competition – also considered as “the Investment Olympics” for students – aims to provide university students with an unparalleled experience of working with investment industry professionals and publicly traded companies to produce an equity research report, as well as to promote the best practices in research among the next generation of analysts.
Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and Faculty of Management Studies will now participate in the India finale of the Research Challenge, to be held in Mumbai next month. Three winners from this level will represent India at the Asia Pacific regional final.
