IIM-A shares perspectives on L&D at HR Conclave

On June 2, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A), a leading management school, organised a one-day HR Conclave for sharing perspectives on learning and development. Known for its unique training methods worldwide, IIMA offers training at every level for professionals.
The conclave was designed for HR heads and leaders of learning and development in the corporate sector, government, startups and other organisations. The focus of the event was to identify the needs, approaches and challenges in learning and development across various sectors.

During the inaugural address, Professor Ashish Nanda, director IIMA, said, “A well-advanced training is required in today’s millennial organisations. We at IIMA identify the needs of the executive learning and design the excellent training program.”

Elaborating on the Executive Education at IIMA, Prof. Sebastian Morris, chairperson, Executive Education, IIMA said, “IIMA would play a significant role in Executive Education in the future and operate at a different level, leaving experience that would give lasting values. IIMA hopes to work with its clients and participants to provide a high quality training programme.”

Three panel discussions were part of the proceedings. The first panel was on ‘Meeting the learning needs of Millennial Organisations and Employees’. The key topics covered by the panel was ‘Why top level managers should be trained?’ While investing and retaining highly knowledgeable experts, participating in Executive Education programme along with top-notch leaders is invaluable. Promila Agarwal and Biju Varkkey, professors IIMA, gave an insight on Trends in Executive Learning.

The second panel discussion was on ‘Growing through learning partnerships’. Prof. M. R. Dixit, IIMA spoke on the topic ‘IIMA Abroad: Experiences and Possibilities’. A few more senior executives who participated in the conclave shared their knowledge and experiences on Learning through partnership and its benefits.

Concluding the HR Conclave, the issue of the future of learning was also discussed. Prof. Varkkey, faculty coordinator, IIMA HR concluded, “The whole idea of this conclave was to identify the need and challenges of Executive Education. As discussed, the learning contributes to a better management team which has good and robust Industrial relations with its employees and also with the society at large.”

IIM Ahmedabad is a premier organisation in management education, research and consultancy in the country. Set up in 1961, it has grown to become an internationally recognised institution today.
