IIMB’s Centre for Public Policy to host 11th Annual Global Conference

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore will host the XIth Annual International Conference on Public Policy and Management between August 6 and 10, 2016. The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Inclusion and Exclusion: Policy and Practice’. Using both theoretical and empirical lenses, spanning research and practitioner pieces from academia, industry and the government, the conference will explore different ways by which policy processes impact social outcomes.
A total of 95 papers are expected to be presented during this two-and-a-half-day conference with pre-conference events planned over the weekend.

Please refer http://www.iimb.ernet.in/xi-aicppm-special-tracks-sessions for the schedule and details.

On August 6, the conference will host a Public Policy Hackathon that seeks to develop evidence-based suggestions on ‘How public policy can target challenges facing society today’.

On August 7, P. Chidambaram, former home minister, and D. Subbarao, former RBI governor, will share their insights on ‘How the dramatis personae institutionally dealt with the headwinds of financial contagion and the larger political and economic context within which this particular public policy challenge was resolved’. The session will be moderated by Professor Rupa Chanda from the Economics & Social Sciences Area at IIMB.

The panel discussion on August 8 will feature key policy makers associated with ideating, creating, commenting and operationalising the FRBM Act. This will be followed by presentations of short-listed submissions from the Policy Hackathon, where policy makers will participate in identifying the final winners of the Hackathon.

On the evening of August 9, political commentator Jairam Ramesh will speak on his latest book, Old History, New Geography, released in June 2016. In the context of repeated bifurcations of the states of India, his talk will provide insights on the recent formation of Telangana.

The conference will host a mix of academic sessions, workshops, panel discussions and practitioner-oriented discussions around key topics in public policy and management. The tracks include Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Responsibility, nationally and internationally; Federalism, Agricultural and Rural Change in India; Role of Social Policy for Women; Managing Health Costs; Educational interventions; Adaptation to Political Conflict; Prohibition of Alcohol in Gujarat; New Public Administration; Crony Capitalism; Crowd Funding in India, among others.

About 200 paper submissions were actively peer-reviewed by professors at IIM Bangalore as a part of this year’s conference.
