In a significant move to advance AI literacy among school students, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has partnered with Get Set Learn (GSL), an ed-tech startup backed by the Arvind Mafatlal Group, to launch the Artificial Intelligence Quotient (AIQ) – a structured AI education programme for the K-12 segment.
Developed under IIT Guwahati’s flagship Project Vidhya, AIQ aims to introduce students from Grades 6 to 12 to Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT), combining theoretical understanding with hands-on application. The programme is aligned with national priorities such as AICTE’s declaration of 2025 as the ‘Year of AI’, NITI Aayog’s ‘AI for All’ initiative, and global frameworks including UNESCO’s guidelines on AI in education.
Gaurav Trivedi, Principal Investigator of Project Vidhya at IIT Guwahati, remarked, “AIQ is one of India’s first structured AI programmes for middle school students. Our goal is to foster creativity, critical thinking and ethical awareness while introducing learners to emerging technologies early on.”
Ameet Zaveri, CEO and Co-founder of GSL, added, “In collaboration with IIT Guwahati, we have created a rigorous, accessible programme that reflects both national education goals and global best practices. We are committed to making AI literacy inclusive and future-ready.”
Key Features of AIQ:
- Curriculum developed with IIT Guwahati ensuring academic rigour and structured progression.
- A3EI Learning Framework – Absorb, Analyse, Apply, Evaluate, Innovate – with over 60% project-based learning.
- No prior coding experience required, making it accessible to all students.
- Ethics in AI is a core component, with modules on data privacy, bias, and responsible tech use.
- Real-world challenges via GSL’s SOLVE IT platform, reviewed by IIT faculty.
- Flexible delivery formats, including in-school and hybrid models.
AIQ is divided into three progressive levels:
- Level 1 (Grades 6–8): Introduction to AI through storytelling and problem-solving.
- Level 2 (Grades 9–10): Application of GenAI tools, robotics, and design thinking.
- Level 3 (Grades 11–12): Advanced modules in machine learning and ethical innovation.
Each level comes with custom-developed textbooks and is supported by live workshops, technology immersions, and guided digital learning. Students completing the programme will receive a joint certification from IIT Guwahati and Get Set Learn.
With its inclusive and interdisciplinary approach, AIQ sets a new benchmark in school-level AI education in India. The rollout begins in the 2025–26 academic year, starting with Grade 6 and gradually expanding to higher levels.
