An IIT-Madras project employee was arrested for allegedly attempting to film a Ph.D. scholar while she was inside the women’s washroom. The student suspected that she was being filmed when she spotted a hole in the wall of the toilet, said the police. She allegedly found the employee on the other end.
The police have identified the offender as Subham Banerji, an assistant professor in the Aerospace Engineering Department.
The student reported the matter to the police, who visited the spot and arrested the IIT-Madras staff based on the complaint filed by the student.
A police official told The New Indian Express that on finding the phone, she found the camera was on. She rushed outside, locked the men’s bathroom from out and called the security guard. When the guard opened the men’s bathroom, Banerji was found inside. A police case has been registered under Section 354C (voyeurism) of the IPC.
