Imperial College London, ranked second globally and first in the UK in the 2025 QS World University Rankings, has announced plans to open Imperial Global India — a new innovation and education hub in Bengaluru, India’s technology capital. The hub is set to launch in May 2025 and marks a significant milestone in deepening UK-India collaboration across science, education, and industry.
The hub will serve as a strategic liaison office aimed at forging new research partnerships with Indian universities and institutions, engaging with local industry and policymakers, and fostering joint innovation projects. The focus areas include emerging technologies such as AI, quantum computing, biotechnology, advanced materials, and critical minerals.
“Imperial Global India will be a launchpad for impactful collaboration in science and innovation,” said Professor Hugh Brady, President of Imperial College London. “We aim to build bridges that drive economic growth, solve global challenges, and improve lives.”
The initiative will be led by Professor Sanjeev Gupta and Dr. Elena Dieckmann, who both bring longstanding academic partnerships with Indian institutions. Imperial currently collaborates with leading Indian organisations such as IISc Bangalore, AIIMS, and multiple IITs, and recently launched the India Connect Fund to support joint research and scholarships.
This Bengaluru hub joins Imperial’s global network of strategic centers in Singapore, San Francisco, and Accra. The official launch event will be held on May 21, bringing together leaders from academia, industry, and policy to shape the future of UK-India scientific collaboration.
