Inclusive education system needed for kids with disabilities

A national convention on inclusive education of children with disabilities held in New Delhi on September 23 focused on evolving strategies that will further their rights to free and compulsory education.

The convention came up with certain suggestions for realisation of right to education of children with special needs within the education system of the country.

A release issued by the HRD Ministry said it aimed at identifying the specific concerns of children with special needs/disabilities within the larger debates and concerns in education and taking stock of the status of inclusive education with specific reference to Right of children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009. 

The ministry also aims at exploring strategies that could be used to strengthen an inclusive education system and making recommendations for the realisation of the Right to Education of children with special needs/disabilities within the education system of India, it said.

The convention discussed the education of children with disabilities within the larger contexts and debates in education.
