India Drama and Arts Educators Alliance to launch in Bangalore with Barry Stewart Mann

The India Drama and Arts Educators Alliance (iDEA) is set to launch in Bangalore soon with a series of special workshops led by Fulbright-Nehru specialist Barry Stewart Mann.

Masterclass for Adults: This innovative masterclass and experiential workshop will be hosted on August 17 & 18, 2024 from 2-5 PM at Shoonya Bangalore. Barry Stewart Mann, a Harvard University graduate with an M.F.A. in Theatre from the University of San Diego, will lead this transformative workshop. With extensive experience captivating audiences across the USA and internationally, Barry will conduct his Fulbright-Specialist Workshop on Storytelling and Drama for Teaching and Learning for the first time in India.

This workshop is designed to empower educators, parents, arts practitioners, and the public to create dynamic, interactive learning environments. Participants will discover how storytelling and process drama can enhance learning experiences, fostering holistic development and a deeper appreciation for these powerful educational tools.

Children’s Workshop: To be hosted on August 18, 2024 at Shoonya Bangalore for children aged 5 and above, this workshop will offer a fun-filled experience to spark children’s creativity, boost their learning, and build essential life skills. Through engaging storytelling and drama activities, children will develop language, literacy, and communication skills while fostering problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork.

Storytelling offers a fun, relevant, and enjoyable context for language exposure, helping children become familiar with sounds, rhythm, and intonation. It promotes language development, cognitive skills, and cultural appreciation. Educators will gain practical techniques for engaging students, boosting their motivation, confidence, and self-esteem.

Storytelling and process drama engages participants in creative, interactive activities that enhance critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. These methods provide a multi-sensory educational experience that enriches language learning and critical thinking skills. Children will explore subjects like maths, science, and social studies through folklore, children’s literature, and original stories, fostering creative exploration and application of abstract concepts.

iDEA aims to empower education professionals and develop a framework of evidence-based creative education practices in applied theatre, the visual arts, storytelling, literature and music and create an inclusive, supportive environment for educators of all backgrounds and abilities to innovate approaches, engage students and drive meaningful future impact across Indian education communities.
