Overview

The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (IIIT-A) was founded in 1999 as a centre of excellence in information technology and computer science by the Government of India. It is one of the nineteen Indian Institutes of Information Technology listed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The institute was conferred the “Deemed University” status in 2000. In 2014 the IIIT Act was passed, under which IIITA and four other Institutes of Information Technology funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development were classed as Institutes of National Importance. The beautiful 100 acres campus is situated at Deoghat, Jhalwa designed meticulously on the Penrose Geometry pattern by a mathematics professor Roger Penrose.

Campus

The 100 acre campus at Deoghat, Jhalwa has been designed by a mathematics professor, Roger Penrose. The campus hosts two computer centres with six labs each, 16 lecture halls, electronic library and a residential campus. It also houses a state-of-the-art auditorium and facilities for sports and extracurricular activities including a sports field, basket ball and tennis courts and a student activity centre for indoor games. Other facility offerings include a 40-room air-conditioned guest house and staff residences for senior professors and other staff.

Placements:

IIIT-A has a well-managed training and placement cell to guide students towards learning proper industry knowledge. The institute organises active placement drives every year, bringing in the best companies from various sectors to recruit graduating students and has shown an upwards trend in the highest package and the average package offered to the students with every passing year. The placement procedure is as follows:

• The IIIT-A training and placement cell send out job notification forms (JNF) to companies from different sectors with brochures of students, who then fill up the JNF with all relevant information and accept the invite.
• The training and placement cell fixes dates for campus visits during the placement drive, and students have to register themselves for IIIT-A placement.
• During the placement drive, a variety of activities from pre-placement talks to selection rounds are undertaken, after which selected students and presented with offer letters which they must confirm within a stipulated time period.

The highest number of recruitments is done in the information technology sector. The students from all degrees and courses are given equal opportunities to appear in the placement drive. In addition to placement opportunities, IIIT-A also offers summer internship opportunities to students which can go up to 4-6 months paid internship with the top companies and institutes.

Recent placement highlights- 2020: A total of 120 recruiters participated in the 2020 placement drive, top recruiters among them being Google, Amazon, Microsoft, LinkedIn, Adobe and VISA. A placement percentage of 96% was recorded, with the highest CTC being INR 43 LPA and the average CTC being INR 20.83 LPA.

General Information

Admission

Undergraduate Admission- B.Tech.

Selection Criteria: JEE Main score/rank.

Eligibility: 10+2 with PCM from a recognised board with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks.

Admission Procedure:

• Candidates must register for admissions by filling the application form and submitting it along with required documents and payment of application fees.
• Candidates have to apply and appear for the JEE Main exams.
• After securing a valid score and all-India rank (AIR), candidates will have to register and participate in the JoSAA counselling process for final seat allottment, where they have to choose IIIT-A as their preference during choice locking.
• Candidates will be selected depending on the cut-off score requirements and candidate’s JEE Main results. Selected candidates may verify their documents and pay the fees to confirm admission.

Postgraduate Admission- M.Tech.

Selection Criteria: GATE score/rank.

Eligibility: B.Tech. in relevant specialisation from a recognised university with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks.

Admission Procedure:

• Candidates must register for admissions by filling the application form and submitting it along with required documents and payment of application fees.
• Candidates have to apply and appear for the GATE exams.
• After securing a valid score and rank, candidates will have to register and participate in the CCMT counselling process for final seat allottment, where they have to choose IIIT-A as their preference during choice locking.
• Candidates will be selected depending on the cut-off score requirements and candidate’s JEE Main results. Selected candidates must report to the institute with their allotment letter where they may verify their documents and pay the fees to confirm admission.

Postgraduate Admission- M.B.A.

Selection Criteria: CAT scores and performance in group discussion and private interview.

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline/specialisation from a recognised university with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks.

Admission Procedure:

• Candidates must register for admissions by filling the application form and submitting it along with required documents and payment of application fees.
• Candidates have to apply and appear for the CAT exams and secure a valid score.
• After meeting the required cut-off score, shortlisted candidates will be invited for the group discussion (GD) and personal interview (PI) rounds. The final merit list shall be uploaded on the official website.
• Candidates will be selected depending on CAT scores, performance in group discussion and private interview and academic merit. Selected candidates must report to the institute with their allotment letter where they may verify their documents and pay the fees to confirm admission.

Doctoral Admission- Ph.D.

Selection Criteria:

Eligibility: Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in relevant discipline/specialisation from a recognised university with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks.

• GATE score or UGC/ CSIR NET/JRF for B.Tech./M.Tech./B.Pharm./M.Pharm./M.Sc./M.C.A. degree holders.
• CAT qualification/GMAT score or UGC/ CSIR NET/JRF for M.B.A./M.Com. degree holders.

Admission Procedure:

• Candidates must register for admissions by filling the application form and submitting it along with required documents and payment of application fees.
• Candidates meeting the cut-off for the relevant examination (GATE/CAT/GMAT) will be called for an interview round.
• Candidates will be selected depending on GATE/CAT/GMAT scores, overall academic merit and performance in interview. Selected candidates must verify their documents and pay the fees to confirm admission.

IIIT-Allahabad was ranked 119 in the BRICS nations by the QS World University Rankings of 2019 and 351-400 in Asia in 2020.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked IIIT-Allahabad 103 among engineering colleges in India in 2020. It was also ranked 10 by India Today in 2020 and 18 by Outlook India in 2019.

Accommodation

There are separate hostels for men and women with capacity for 240 and 60 students respectively. Hostel facilities include computers and internet access, 24 hours power backup, meals, and indoor and outdoor games.
