Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi is a public technical and research university in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. It was established in 1919 as the Banaras Engineering College by Madan Mohan Malvia, renamed the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University in 1968. In 2012, it was designated the status of an IIT. Located within the Banaras Hindu University campus (but independent of its control), today it boasts 16 departments, three inter-disciplinary schools and one humanities and social sciences department.
IIT BHU is a leading UGC-approved engineering institute in India, and was ranked 11th by NIRF 2020 rankings and 26th overall. The college boasts a faculty strength of 353 and a student strength of over 6000.
The IIT BHU campus is equipped with state-of-the-art classroom and laboratory facilities, including labs for physics, chemistry, computer, electrical and electronics, civil engineering and geotechnical labs among several others. IIT BHU has a main library and five independent departmental libraries, the libraries housing a vast collection of more than 1.3 lakh books, journals, theses, reports and pamphlets.
Sports and extracurricular facilities are facilitated through the gymkhana and provides courts and fields for a variety of sports including basketball, volleyball, tennis, squash and swimming.
There are also in-campus hostels for men as well as women equipped with adequate facilities such as common rooms, water purifiers, security surveillance, laundry services, etc.

Placements:
The training and placement cell of IIT BHU facilitates the placement process of students in collaborating with leading organizations and institutes in setting up of internship and training program of students. The office liaises with various industrial establishments and corporate houses of which nearly 200 companies visit the campus to conduct campus interviews and select graduate and post-graduate students from all disciplines. The training and placement office provides infra-structural facilities to conduct group discussions, tests and interviews besides catering to other logistics. The industries which approach the institute come under the purview of: Core Engineering industries IT & IT enabled services Manufacturing Industries Consultancy Firms Finance Companies Management Organisations R & D laboratories.
The placement season runs through the course of the year commencing in the last week of July through to March. Pre-placement talks are also conducted in this regard as per mutual convenience. Job offers, dates of interviews, selection of candidates etc. are announced through the Training & Placement Office.
Recent placement highlights- 2019-20: A total of 52 companies participated in the placement drive, offering a salary range of INR 10 LPA to INR 58.21 LPA. 773 out of a total 1063 B.Tech. students were placed, with a total of 164 PPOs and 141 internships. The average CTC stood at INR 8.19 LPA, the highest domestic CTC at INR 1.04 crores and the highest international CTC at INR 1.53 crores. Top recruiters included Wipro, Samsung, Tata Steels, Amazon, Oracle, Morgan Stanley, and Maruti.
