The Institute of Home Economics (IHE), New Delhi is a women’s college of the University of Delhi. Founded in 1961 by Dr. S. Malhan, the founder Director, IHE New Delhi was meant to give women wider educational and professional avenues and went on to become a leading centre for women’s education in the country.
The institute became a constituent college of the University of Delhi in 1969. Since then, the college has expanded. Though it was started as a Home Science college, it has expanded and offers a three-year undergraduate course in Microbiology as well as a four-year integrated course in Elementary education. From the current academic year, the college is offering the three-year B.Sc. (Hons) course in Biochemistry. The Institute originally only offered a two-year Diploma course in Home Science, but then offered regular degree courses at the undergraduate and post-graduate level, a post-graduate diploma course in addition to Ph.D. programmes.
The IHE campus, housed in a 3.5-acre plot, moved to its present building at Hauz Khas Enclave in 2001. With the foundation stone being laid by the then President Giani Zail Singh in 1987, the building was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Delhi University, Prof. Deepak Nayyar in 2001. The campus is well endowed with manicured lawns, spacious lecture theaters and laboratories. The Institute has an All India Charter catering to students from various countries of Asia and Africa. There are about 800 students attending at present.
The college campus houses a computerized library housing over 25,000 resource texts with 4o national and international journal subscriptions. Laboratory facilities for computer, chemistry, physics, biotechnology, microbiology, therapeutic nutrition, clothing construction and apparel designing are available to students on campus. The campus also houses a lecture theatre, conference room and audio studio in addition to classrooms.
The campus is Wi-Fi enabled and also houses a convenience store, a cafeteria and a common room. Sports facilities on campus include a gym, yoga and fitness centre and facilities for basketball and table tennis.

Recent Placement Highlights: the median CTC of recent graduates was recorded at INR 2.5 LPA whereas the highest CTC stood at INR 3.6 LPA. Leading companies who participated in the placement drive included Nestle, Aaj Tak, Zee news and Vistas.

IHE boasts a well qualified and experienced faculty, imparting a high standard of education to the students.
