Overview

Founded in 1972, The International School of Hyderabad (ISH) is a coeducational international day school affiliated with the IGCSE Cambridge Board and the first school in Hyderabad to introduce the IB Diploma Programme.

ISH is a non-profit organization formally managed and sponsored by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT). Majority of the students at ISH are from outside India, but they also admit a limited number of Indian students, ISH focuses on preparing students for universities abroad.

According to a school spokesperson, “The idea is to nurture a dynamic international school in which each individual is valued and challenged and inspired to become a responsible global citizen.“ Individualized and personalized approach to learning is the main forte of the school, placing high priority on learning how to learn, learning by doing and critical thinking skills.

Campus

ISH is located inside the main ICRISAT campus that stretches for 1,500 hectares/3,600 acres. Its location on the ICRISAT campus provides students with extraordinary access to nature that includes forests and lakes.

The location inside the campus also ensures that the school gets a double set of security. The extensive ICRISAT campus has its own medical facilities, fire stations etc.

Its location on the ICRISAT campus also provides students with a most unusual learning environment, with science labs, a museum, a medieval fort, and a weather station all on the ICRISAT campus. Other facilities include the use of a large outdoor swimming pool, outdoor basketball and volleyball courts, outdoor tennis courts, and a number of sports fields. There is also a golf driving range and a fitness centre.

Academics

From reception (Kindergarten) to grade 8, ISH follows its own curriculum based on best practices from the US, Canada, Australia, and Europe. In grades 9-10, ISH follows the IGCSE, an international curriculum developed and administered by Cambridge University International Examinations. In grades 11-12, ISH follows the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, the most widely recognized international curriculum in the world.

ISH is accredited by two foreign accreditation agencies: the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS).

ISH has an inclusive admission policy; students with a diverse range of ability levels and educational experiences are accepted into the school.

Extracurricular: Creativity, action and service (CAS) is an integral component and the life line of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. CAS helps students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development through experiential learning. At the same time, it provides an important counterbalance to the academic pressures of the rest of the diploma programme. Each student has a different goal and need and CAS helps them to gain such experiences that are profound and life changing.

CAS has been integrated into the ISH middle and high school curriculum through after school activities.
