Jamia appoints Mohammad Shahid Khan as chief proctor & security in-charge

The Jamia Millia Islamia has appointed Mohammad Shahid Khan as the chief proctor and in-charge of security with immediate effect, according to an official order released on Monday. This decision follows the Officiating Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Shakeel’s decision to relieve Atiqur Rahman of his duties as chief proctor and security in-charge.

The order, dated July 20, specifies: “The officiating vice-chancellor, JMI, has relieved Atiqur Rahman, Department of Geography, Faculty of Sciences, from his responsibilities as chief proctor and in-charge of security with immediate effect.” It continues, “In accordance with the provisions of University Ordinance 22(XXII)(1) (Academic), the officiating vice-chancellor is pleased to appoint Mohammad Shahid Khan as chief proctor with immediate effect until further notice.”

Mohammad Shahid Khan, a professor in the Department of Physics at the university, has an extensive academic background. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics (2002), M.Sc. in Physics (1992), B.Ed. (1993), and B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics (1990), all from Jamia Millia Islamia (Central University), New Delhi. His teaching experience spans 17 years at the undergraduate level and 15 years at the postgraduate level, with a research career extending over 19 years.

Khan’s field of specialization includes Molecular and Optical Physics, Nonlinear Optical Materials, Optical Spectroscopy, Computational Molecular and Nanoscience, and Photonic Materials. He has been a Professor in the Department of Physics at Jamia Millia Islamia since October 2, 2019. Prior to this, he served as an Associate Professor from May 22, 2018, to October 1, 2019, and as an Assistant Professor from November 21, 2006, to May 21, 2018. Khan also worked as a Guest Lecturer in the Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities at the Faculty of Engineering for the sessions 2004-2005 and 2005-2006.
