The Executive Council of Jamia Millia Islamia has appointed two new members to a search committee responsible for shortlisting candidates for the next vice-chancellor, as reported by an official on Wednesday.
The decision to nominate new members arose due to a delay in submitting the previous nominations to the Union Ministry of Education, explained Najma Akhtar, the former Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia. She clarified, “The Executive Council has proposed new names for the search committee due to the delay in forwarding the earlier names to the ministry after the conclusion of my tenure.”
During the interim period of forming the search committee, Pro Vice-Chancellor Eqbal Hussain took on the role of acting Vice-Chancellor starting from November 13.
The newly nominated members for the search committee, chosen by the council, include Tariq Mansoor, a nominated member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council and former Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, and TV Kattimani, Vice-Chancellor of the Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh.
The ministry will determine the chairperson of the three-member search committee. The official mentioned that the minutes of Tuesday’s meeting have been forwarded to the ministry. In November, the Executive Council had initially proposed Zoya Hasan and Faizan Mustafa as members of the search committee.
