Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi was originally established at Aligarh in United Provinces, India in 1920It offers integrated education from nursery to research in specialized areas. In 1962, the University Grants Commission declared JMI a ‘deemed to be University’. It became a Central University by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1988.
Besides its six faculties, the JMI has number of centers of learning and research, like Mass Communication Research Centre (MCRC) and Academy of Third World Studies (ATWS). The JMI is also marching ahead in the field of Information Technology (IT). It offers various undergraduate and postgraduate IT courses. Apart from this, the JMI has a campus wide network which connects a large number of its departments and offices.
The students are provided with well furnished library. The library is named after ex-President of India, Dr. Zakir Hussain. It has computerized collection which is available through OPAC (Online public Access Catalogue). The library has dedicated internet area where students are encouraged to make use of e-journals, with regular orientation programs.
The JMI University provides 100% placement. It gives students the opportunity to showcase their corporate requirements and job efficiencies. JMI also promotes games and sports among the student youth. The sports activities in JMI are organized through a University Sports Committee which is chaired by a senior university professor.

Placements:
The placement and training cell of JMI helps students and companies meet and bridge knowledge gaps for recruitment. JMU imparts the skills and necessary training to its students to meet eligibility criteria of recruiters and prepare them for placement tests and interview by conducting mock interviews and written tests. The placement cell makes available the requisite information about recruiting companies to its students as well as course content and quality of students to potential recruiters.
The JMI Placement and Training cell contacts companies and sets up their campus visit for the placement procedure while it prepares the university and students for campus placement drives.
During campus placement drives, recruiters generally conduct written tests, group discussions, and personal interviews. The students who qualify receive job offers with salaries based on various factors including their performance in tests, academic record, and recruiter’s company norms and standards.
Recent placement highlights- 2019-20: During the 2019-20 placement drive, a total of 52 companies participated, offering 257 job offers to students of various postgraduate, undergraduate, and diploma courses. Recently, the university concluded its 2020 Summer Placement Drive for the M.Sc. Banking and Financial Analytics department as it achieved a 100% internship record. The average CTC was recorded at INR 5 LPA, while the highest CTC stood at INR 41 LPA. Microsoft was the top recruiter, other leading recruiters being Zee Entertainment, Adobe Systems, BYJU’s and Trident India.

For boys there are four hostels with limited number of seats and for girls there is only one hostel. In addition to this, there is one Working Women’s Hostel also.
