Founded in 1987, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Hamirpur is a coeducational English medium government residential school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. The school offers education from class VI to XII and is fully financed and managed by the Government of India through an autonomous organisation, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.
The JNV Hamirpur campus hosts multimedia classrooms, well-equipped separate laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology with adequate number of apparatus, sufficient chemical, slides, microscope, OHP, LCD Projector, herbarium and specimen for study, a well-stocked library featuring 8325 reference books, 20 magazines, 13 periodicals and 13 dailies.
The school is equipped with a high-tech computer lab offering latest multimedia PCs, 24 hours high speed internet connectivity, computer based training programme and a huge collection of educational software.
Sports facilities on campus include courts and fields for basketball, football, handball, judo, kabbadi, kho-kho, volleyball and athletics. At secondary level, JNV offers five compulsory subjects and an optional subject Hindi.
At senior secondary level, the school offers:
Science Stream – English, Physics, biology and chemistry as compulsory subjects and Hindi/maths as optional.
Humanities Stream – English, economics, geography and history as compulsory subjects and Hindi/maths as optional.

Admissions to JNVs are made through national level competitive examination conducted by the CBSE called the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST). The test is nonverbal, class neutral and designed to ensure that talented children from the rural areas are able to compete without facing any disadvantages. Children are admitted at class VI level and admissions to classes IX and XI are made against the vacant seats through regional level examination/marks in the previous qualifying examination.
