The National Testing Agency has announced the postponement of the fourth and final session of the Joint Entrance Exams (JEE) on Tuesday in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic’s second wave.

This comes after the agency postponed the third session of the exams that were due to take place in the last week of April.

On May 4, union Education minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had tweeted that the decision to postpone the exams was taken in the wake of the pandemic, keeping in mind the safety of students.

However, for aspirants, this has not been a welcome decision with several of them taking to social media to express their disagreement.

“Instead of conducting online exams and putting students out of their misery, the central and state governments are repeatedly delaying exams which is only making the situation worse for students, who consider this their most important year academically,” said Anupama Rai, mother of a JEE aspirant.

She also said that many aspirants had not appeared for the sessions in February and March as they had to prepare for class 12 boards. JEE is held in four sessions this year so as to benefit the applicants. They can choose from the best of the four.

Meanwhile, Deepak, another aspirant took to social media to say, “I am certainly worried about what happens next. Was pinning all hopes on the fourth session. Saving lives also matters.”
