JEE-Main curriculum trimmed to match standardized school board syllabi

November 3, 2023

The National Testing Agency officials have reduced the JEE-Main syllabus to align with the revised curriculum adopted by CBSE and various school boards, addressing the academic disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2024 JEE-Main January exam schedule, along with online registration dates and result declaration (scheduled for February 12, 2024), was announced for the first time.

Notably, 44 education boards, including CBSE, participated in the syllabus consultation and presented their adaptations to the committee under NCERT. All omitted units from these boards were accommodated in the revised syllabus to standardize the curriculum.

JEE-Main serves as the qualifying test for admissions to NITs and IIITs, with the top 20% of the merit list eligible for the JEE (Advanced) exam for admission to IITs.

Online registration for the 2024 exam began on Thursday and will run until November 30, 2023. The NTA will assign examination centers by the second week of January 2024, with computer-based tests scheduled from January 24 to February 1.

The JEE (Main)-2024 will be conducted in 13 languages, and candidates can opt for one or both sessions. Each paper (mathematics, physics, chemistry) will consist of two sections, MCQs and numerical value-based questions, with negative marking for both sections.
