JEE, NEET exams: Cabinet Ministers from 6 states file review petition in SC

Odisha to introduce quota in engineering medical colleges for state-run school students

Six opposition ruled states government – West Bengal, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Chhatisgarh, Punjab and Maharashtra filed a joint review plea against SC August 17, 2020 order to dismiss the petition seeking to postpone NEET and JEE (Mains) exam. A campaign was launched by the Congress against the decision to hold the medical and engineering entrance exams during the Covid-19 pandemic for the safety of students.

The petition filed through Advocate Sunil Fernandes states that the Supreme Court order to conduct the exams, fails to “secure the safety, security and Right to Life of the Students/Candidates appearing for NEET/JEE exams.”

Earlier, the Ministry of Education Secretary said that the Centre’s decision remains the same that there would be no rethink on postponing JEE and NEET exams. The NTA on Wednesday said it is “fully prepared” to conduct the JEE (Main) and NEET, for admission to engineering and medical courses respectively, in a “safe and secure” manner with all precautions in place in the wake of the pandemic.
