O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) hosted a senior delegation from the University of Tokyo as the India–Japan Higher Education Conclave 2025 opened in New Delhi. The delegation, led by Professor Kaori Hayashi, Executive Vice President for Global and Diversity Affairs, is undertaking a six-day India Tour across Delhi, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru under the theme “Future of Global Education: India and Japan as Leaders of Knowledge and Innovation”.
The visit is part of JGU’s Act East mandate and reflects its exclusive institutional partnership with the University of Tokyo, alongside more than 25 collaborations with Japanese universities. The tour includes policy dialogues, university visits, press interactions and discussions on joint programmes, academic mobility and research cooperation.
JGU Vice Chancellor Professor C. Raj Kumar said the visit strengthens higher education ties and supports bilateral priorities in education, technology and innovation. Professor Hayashi highlighted UTokyo’s focus on internationalisation and diversity, noting the potential for expanded collaboration.
Professor Yujin Yaguchi, Vice President (Global Education), emphasised the importance of academic pathways, student mobility and joint degree structures, while Project Research Associate Professor Satsuki Shioyama contributed perspectives on comparative education and inclusive knowledge exchange.
Both institutions discussed future frameworks for two-way student and faculty mobility, joint and dual degree programmes, research partnerships and co-taught courses. Professor Akhil Bhardwaj of JGU said the tour will help shape long-term initiatives connecting universities, industry and government.
The delegation concludes its India Tour on 12 December, with both universities expected to outline a roadmap for strengthening India–Japan higher education collaboration.
