The Mysuru Police in Karnataka on Sunday registered an FIR against Bollywood actor Rakhi Sawant’s husband Adil Durrani following a complaint by a foreign national alleging rape.
The Iranian woman informed the police that the incident took place when she came to India to pursue a Doctor of Pharmacy Course in 2018.
This complainant said that she befriended Adil in 2018 while he was running a restaurant in VV Puram and later lived with the accused in a flat in Yadavagiri.
She claimed that Adil had promised to marry her later. However, five months ago, when the woman insisted on getting married, Adil refused and threatened her with dire consequences if she insisted. She also claimed that she was assaulted following this.
She claimed that he also threatened her to post private photos on social media and said he would send them to her parents in Iran if she forced him to tie the knot. She said that August 31, 2022, Adil alleged that he had deleted the photos from his mobile. However, when she tried to reach him over the phone, he threatened her with dire consequences.
“The Iran national visited the police station on 10 February and filed a complaint against Adil khan. We have registered a case under IPC 376 (rape), 417 (punish for cheating), 420 (cheating), 504 (insulting intentionally), 506 (threatening with life),” Narasimharaja division ACP Ashwath Narayan said.
The police officer said the accused is in judicial custody in Mumbai in connection with a cheating case filed by his wife Rakhi Sawant. “We are investigating the case and would take custody of the accused soon by approaching the court,” Narayan said.
It may be recollected that Adil was arrested on Tuesday night after Rakhi Sawant had filed a complaint accusing him of assault, taking away valuables from her house without permission and forcing her into unnatural sex, among other charges. Sawant had changed her name to Fathima post the wedding and the couple had separated later.
Adil was arrested by the Oshiwara Police station and is being interrogated.
