A girl clad in Hijab and black robe was heckled by a group of boys wearing saffron shawls in a college off the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway on Tuesday.

The video of Muskaan, a student of PES College of Arts, Science and Commerce, lashing back at boys who were shouting “Jai Sriram” slogans at her back and maintaining her stand went viral on social media. In retaliation, the girl also chanted Allah-u-Akbar.

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, one of the Islamic organisations has announced a reward of Rs five lakh for the girl student for chanting ‘Allah-u-Akbar’ while wearing the hijab in the college.

Later, this student posted a video explaining that as she entered college after parking her two-wheeler, she was asked to take off the Hijab and her black robe before entering class. The same was followed by shouting slogans and an argument, while college staff tried to pacify them.

For three days, physical classes for classes 9 and 10 and colleges across the state have remained shut as the government announced a holiday following incidents of violence on Tuesday.

The Karnataka High Court is hearing the case regarding the Hijab controversy. While the advocate representing the students, Devdutt Kamath put forth his views on Tuesday, Prabhuling Navadagi, the advocate general of Karnataka will present his argument on Wednesday. The hearing of the case is scheduled at 2.30 pm on Wednesday.
