The department of public instruction has ordered the formation of an internal committee to address sexual harassment at workplace.
The internal committee will be responsible to receive and address complaints from any women employed under the department of school education and literacy.
In an order signed by the commissioner of Public Instruction, R Vishal, it is necessitated that the committee be constituted to check on complaints of harassment against any women staff in the department by co-workers, immodest behaviour, mental harassment or creating hurdles in the way of women discharging their duties at work.
Dr Roopashree, a KAS officer and joint director, administration at the commissioner’s office will be the president of the committee. Five others have been appointed as committee members.
Under the guidelines for Sexual harassment of women at workplace (prevention, prohibition, and redressal) Act, 2013, it is mandated that all organisations have an Internal Complaints Committee to address any issues that women face at work.
