The Karnataka Private School Managements, Teaching & Non-Teaching Staff Coordination Committee (KPMTCC) a representative organization of private schools in the state will observe Black Independence Day this August 15 protesting against the corruption in various government departments.
The KPMTCC is a representative organization of over 8,000 schools affiliated to state, central and international boards.
It may be recollected that KPMTCC had lodged its protest about the same challenges even with the previous BJP government in the state.
“We have waited 1.5 yrs that new government will honor court orders and fix issues, we approached several times to Hon’ble Mr. Siddaramaiah, who is known as the honest Chief Minister of this state, and the attention of the Deputy Chief Ministers through several correspondence, and they have not got time to prevent any corruption or solve the problem,” the schools said. Hence the protest.
“Condemning this situation, it has been decided to observe ‘Black Independence Day on August 15,” in view of the fact that it is difficult to run un – aided educational institutions’ No freedom in Karnataka to function for quality education,” Shashi Kumar D Convener, KPMTCC said.
Kumar has complained of systemic corruption across departments in Karnataka. He alleged that they are expected to pay bribes for various NOCs, certificates and permissions from the government.
“From past five years, the Education Department has issued an order a day and has not followed any rules in the educational institutions which they run, its discrimination and bias violating even several Hon’ble Court orders. Other departments such as Fire Safety Department, PWD Department, Revenue Department, Child Rights Commission, Police Department and many other departments have been harassing a huge amount of corruption to provide documents which are not humanly possible,” said Kumar.
Parents association objects
Meanwhile, the Karnataka Private Schools Colleges Parents Association condemned this and expressed opposition to the protest. “Independence Day is a day of great importance for the country. Students must be educated about it. Instead, school managements observing a protest on such a day is unacceptable. Why not choose another day for this? We urge the government also to issue a directive in this regard,” said B N Yogananda, president of the association.
