Karnataka to introduce cloud computing in govt schools

In an ambitious project, the Karnataka government plans to introduce cloud-based educational platforms for over 10 lakh students in all its schools and colleges.

“We have invited tenders to take up digitisation of classrooms using cloud data storage and providing e-textbooks and e-learning tools to all government school students,” said Satish Kumar, state libraries department director.

The government has earmarked Rs 5 crore for digitisation. The project is expected to help students e-learn from homes or in case they do not get textbooks on time. Cloud computing will also provide digital content on competitive exams like Union Public Service Commission and Karnataka Public Service Commission.

However, government school teachers’ association alleged that the project is too ambitious for a state that is yet to have basic infrastructure in its schools.
