Karnataka: Universities to use CUET score for UG admission

NTA releases mock test papers for CUET-UG 2022 candidates

Karnataka univerities will now use the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores for admission to undergraduate programmes including BA, BSc and BCom, the UGC chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said today.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will begin the application process for CUET exam from April 6, 2022.

“Today I had a meeting with Vice-Chancellors of 25 State Universities from Karnataka to discuss about Common University Entrance Test (CUET). The VCs have supported the introduction of CUET and have agreed to use CUET for admissions in BA, BSc, BCom and similar programmes,” the UGC Chairman in a social media post said today.

The UGC announced (March 21) the CUET-UG tests as the mandatory entrance exams for admissions to all central universities. The move provides students with a single window opportunity to apply for the 1.8 lakh undergrad seats available at the 45 central universities for the academic year 2022-23.

The NTA and the UGC will not conduct common counselling for UG admissions. Instead, counselling will be conducted by the respective university which will draw up its individual merit lists based on the CUET 2022 scores provided by the NTA. Each university has been allowed to set their own eligibility criteria for admissions which students will have to meet.

In a letter addressed to university vice-chancellors, directors and college principals, the UGC states, “Many state universities, deemed-to-be-universities, private universities and other higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country also use either marks of 12th board or conduct entrance test for admission in UG programmes. To save students from appearing in multiple entrance examinations, conducted on different dates, sometimes coinciding with each other, and to also provide equal opportunity to all students from different boards, the UGC invites and encourages all state universities and other HEIs to adopt and use CUET score from 2022-23 onwards for admissions of students in their UG programmes.”
