Kerala only state to include NCERT’s omitted content in new textbooks: Minister Sivankutty

Sivankutty

The Kerala government has asserted that it is the sole state in India to assemble all the content omitted by the NCERT from school textbooks and produce a new textbook for students to study and use for examinations.

State General Education Minister V Sivankutty made this declaration in response to a query in the state assembly about the implementation of the National Education Policy 2023.

Sivankutty pointed out that the policy has not been fully accepted throughout the country, with Tamil Nadu rejecting it entirely and Karnataka agreeing to implement only certain portions. Furthermore, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has removed numerous topics, such as the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi and the alleged involvement of the RSS, sections on the Mughal rule and empire in India, segments of the Indian freedom struggle, and certain communal riots, from textbooks for classes 11 and 12.

Therefore, the state has compiled all the excised material to create a comprehensive syllabus that students can study and be examined on.

These supplementary textbooks were officially released by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in August of this year, during which he criticized the NCERT for its omission of crucial content, suggesting political motives behind the action aimed at fostering a society marked by hatred and animosity.
