KidZania India, part of the KidZania, a Mexico-based company which has 27 indoor educational and entertainment theme parks worldwide offering children simulated role-playing activities for over 100 vocations and professions — pilot, surgeon, radio-presenter, fire-fighter, etc. — in replicas of real-world industries, organized ‘KidZania Mommy Zummits’ on the eve of Mother’s day, 12th May at its theme parks in Mumbai and Delhi NCR.
The event in Mumbai had a panel discussion titled, ‘Balancing entrepreneurship and motherhood’. The panelists included Shunila Joy Chauhan, principal, Thakur International School – Cambridge, Geeta Ramakrishna, author, Gayatri Sundaram, Head of Content, KidZania, Trupti Oak Natekar, co-founder, Pathfinders, Dr Bhavi Mody, Homeopathic specialist and Poonam Wadera, member, Mompreneur Circle, a Facebook community of over 5 lakh married entrepreneurs.
The ‘KidZania Mommy Zummit’ is in line with the company’s strategy of being a seminar facilitator organising conferences and panel discussions between all those who could influence the child. Over the past two years, KidsZania has organized the ‘KidZania Edu Zummits’ inviting school principals, teachers and academicians to discuss the transformation of education.
“KidZania’s philosophy is to empower kids by letting them decide what they want to do, and take their own decisions. At KidZania, kids decide where they want to work and how they earn and spend the KidsZania’s currency-Kidzos they earn. Since it is the parents who believe in our concept and actually let the kids experience how real world works, we wanted to provide them with a platform to come together and discuss their parenting journeys. This year we organised our first ‘KidZania Mommy Zummit’ and are hoping to make it a regular feature. We are also planning to host a KidZania Daddy Zummit when we celebrate Father’s day on June 16. Parents and other communities like schools are part of a child’s building block. We believe the more they understand what we are building around the children, the more proactive they are going to be,” said Tarandeep Singh, Marketing Director of KidZania India
KidZania was the brainchild of Mexico City-based entrepreneur Xavier Lopez Ancona. An alum of the Kellogg School of Management, Illinois and former vice president of General Electric, he established the first KidZania centre in 1999 at a shopping mall in Mexico City calling it ‘La Ciudad de los Ninos’ (‘The City of Children’). In India, KidZania theme parks are sited in Mumbai since 2013 and Noida since 2016.
