Overview

King George’s Medical University, Lucknow (KGMU) is a medical school, hospital and medical university located in Uttar Pradesh. It is a state university which was established in 1905. The medical school was upgraded into a medical university by an act passed by government of Uttar Pradesh on 16 September 2002.

The medical university has a total capacity of 1250 undergraduate students (including 280 dental students) and 450 postgraduate students. The 4.5-year MBBS course has an intake of 250 students each year.

Campus

Located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, the KGMU campus is spread over an area of roughly 100,000 sq metres. It is situated about 5 km from Charbagh Railway Station and is well connected to all parts of the city by public transport systems such as bus, tempo and taxi. There are separate buildings for the various departments on campus such as Medicine, Surgery, Cardiology, Psychiatry, etc.

The original administrative block now houses the convocation hall, seminar hall (white hall), examination hall, Vice Chancellor’s office and KGMCICE or Clinical Epidemiology Unit besides other related offices. Beside the main building a new administrative building has come up recently and houses the registrar’s office, finance office, examination cell, undergraduate and postgraduate cells, computer centre etc.

There are several hostels interspersed with the department buildings. Trans Gomti hostel for boys with mulitstoreyed faculty residence Warden’s residence is located in Khadra, across the Gomti. University guest house and Vice Chancellors residence is located in the main campus. The centenary hospital complex is located on Shahmina road and shall be housing multi super speciality center.

The huge playground of Sardar Patel Hostel has been divided to accommodate the ambitious scientific convention centre, inaugurated on 19th December 2004 has been taken over by the university. Phase II of the center now houses a 1000 capacity state of art hall.

Other general facilities on the campus include ATMs, post office, cafeteria, dormitories, drug shops, State Government employees welfare canteen and free shuttle services.

Admission

Undergraduate Admissions- M.B.B.S., B.D.S.

Selection Criteria: NEET UG score/rank.

Eligibility: 10+2 with science stream and biology/biotechnology from a recognised board with a minimum aggregate of 50% and valid NEET UG scores.

Admission Process:

  • Candidates must register for admission by filling out the online application form along with the submission of documents and payment of application fees.
  • Candidates must apply and appear for NEET UG exams. Candidates then must register for NEET UG counselling.
  • Candidates will be shortlisted based on their NEET UG score/rank in the NEET UG counselling. Candidates may confirm their admission by verifying documents and paying the fees.

Undergraduate Admissions- B.Sc. (Radiotherapy Technology|Nursing) D.M./D.H., B.Optom.

Selection Criteria: Entrance test and interview.

Eligibility: 10+2 with science stream and biology/biotechnology from a recognised board with a minimum aggregate of 50%

Admission Process:

  • Candidates must register for admission by filling out the online application form along with the submission of documents and payment of application fees.
  • Candidates must appear for the entrance exam, clearing which they will be called for an interview.
  • Candidates will be shortlisted based on their performance in the entrance test and interview and will have to attend the counselling session for allocation of seats. Candidates may confirm their admission by verifying documents and paying the fees.

Postgraduate Admissions- MD, MS, MDS, PGD,

Selection Criteria: UP PGMEE or NEET PG score/rank.

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline/specialisation from a recognised university with a minimum aggregate of 50%.

Admission Process:

  • Candidates must register for admission by filling out the online application form along with the submission of documents and payment of application fees.
  • Candidates must apply and appear for NEET PG/UP PGMEE exams. Candidates then must register for UP NEET PG counselling.
  • Candidates will be shortlisted based on their NEET PG/UP PGMEE score in the UP NEET UG counselling. 85% seats will be allotted by NEET PG scores and 15% seats by UP PGMEE scores. Candidates may confirm their admission by verifying documents and paying the fees.

Postgraduate Admissions- MHPEE, MHA

Selection Criteria: Entrance test and interview/group discussion.

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline/specialisation from a recognised university with a minimum aggregate of 50%.

Admission Process:

  • Candidates must register for admission by filling out the online application form along with the submission of documents and payment of application fees.
  • Candidates must appear for the entrance exam, clearing which they will be called for an interview/group discussion.
  • CAT, MAT, GMAT, CMAT, XAT or ATMA scores are also accepted for MHA admissions.
  • Candidates will be shortlisted based on their performance in the entrance test and interview and will have to attend the counselling session for allocation of seats. Candidates may confirm their admission by verifying documents and paying the fees.

Postgraduate Admissions- D.M., M.Ch.

Selection Criteria: AIDMCHEE/NEET SS score.

Eligibility: M.D./M.S. degree in relevant discipline/specialisation from a recognised university.

Admission Process:

  • Candidates must register for admission by filling out the online application form along with the submission of documents and payment of application fees.
  • Candidates must apply and appear for AIDMCHEE/NEET SS exams.
  • Candidates will be shortlisted based on their AIDMCHEE/NEET SS scores and will have to attend the counselling session for allocation of seats. Candidates may confirm their admission by verifying documents and paying the fees.

Doctoral Admissions- M.Phil., Ph.D.

Selection Criteria: Entrance test and interview (NEET scores for M.Phil)

Eligibility: Master’s degree in relevant discipline/specialisation from a recognised university with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks.

Admission Process:

  • Candidates must register for admission by filling out the online application form along with the submission of documents and payment of application fees.
  • Candidates will be required to appear for the entrance test, followed by the interview round.
  • 70 M.Phil. seats will be filled through UP NEET counselling on the basis of candidate’s NEET scores.
  • Candidates will be shortlisted based on their AIDMCHEE/NEET SS scores and will have to attend the counselling session for allocation of seats. Candidates may confirm their admission by verifying documents and paying the fees.

Achievement

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked the university 32 among universities in India in 2020, 10 among medical colleges and 50 overall.

It was ranked sixth among medical colleges in India in 2019 by Outlook India and seventh by The Week.
