Parents protested outside St. Augustine’s Day School on Ripon Street, Kolkata, and physically assaulted the principal after learning that the school had lost its affiliation with CISCE. Approximately 350 final-year students (of class X and XII) may not be able to take their final board exams due to this loss of affiliation. The school is accused of evading parents’ inquiries about student registrations since last year.
Principal Richard Gasper was reportedly attacked by a group of parents when he tried to enter the school premises. The parents demanded answers from school officials, as the final registration date for classes IX and XI is September 15, and the final-year students have not been registered.
The school lost its affiliation last year, with the council notifying them about violations of norms two years ago. This information was allegedly not communicated to the parents. The school management was asked to resolve a land dispute issue, which reportedly went unresolved despite reminders, leading to the council’s decision to derecognize the school.
Parents are concerned about their children’s futures, as they have paid fees and complied with school requests without being informed about the loss of affiliation. Principal Gasper has assured that the matter will be resolved, but he did not respond to attempts to contact him for further information.
