Lady Andal Venkata Subba Rao Matriculation School, Chennai is a coeducational day school affiliated with the Tamil Nadu Matriculation board. Promoted in 1987, the school is a private institution named after the late Lady M. Andalamma Venkatasubba Rao. Lady Andal Venkata Subba Rao Matriculation School is managed by the Madras Seva Sadan, a charitable institution started by Lady Andal and her husband, the late Honorable Justice Sir M. Venkatasubba Rao.
The school follows the Montessori philosophy and provides education from preschool to class XII. It boasts a multicultural mix of 1300 students and follows the motto, “Service with a Smile”.
The school campus offers a state-of-the-art auditorium, a well stocked library with a collection of over 3752 books, an in-house canteen that serves wholesome and hygienic food to the students and a medical infirmary. The school offers separate labs for physics, chemistry, biology and computer science; the computer science lab is equipped with 82 computers and internet facility.
The hi-tech classrooms are connected to a central server and equipped with a 78" interactive board and a projector and teachers are provided with laptops to access content.
The school offers a learning centre for children with learning difficulties which has been acclaimed as one of the best by the Madras Dyslexia Association, a state-of-the-art audio visual room and a teacher resource centre that helps teachers organize and source material and information to be incorporated into worksheets. It also updates lesson plans and extends support to provide access to audio-visual presentations, field trips, guest lectures, workshops and similar activities.
The playground offers a play area of about 2048 square feet. The school also provides indoor games facilities and a ramp to assist differently abled students.
The school’s Montessori section has a teacher student ratio of 1:15. The section offers a delightful and protected play area and activities such as storytelling, sports, singing and sing-along sessions.
Class I-VIII follows an integrated in-house curriculum. Worksheets, projects and graded reading materials supplement the text books. Children are encouraged to work on individual projects. They also prepare specific assignments based on their fields of interest. Study tours are conducted to complement their class assignments.
Students of classes IX and X follow the curriculum framed by the Tamil Nadu Matriculation Board. In class XI students are offered a choice of subjects under different groups such as Humanities, Science and Commerce.
Extracurricular: Along with academic training, children are encouraged to participate in a number of events and competitions, both at school, state and international levels.
The sports activities at Lady Andal VSR School include swimming, cricket, football, basketball, volleyball table tennis and athletics. The school also offers training in co-curricular activities such as Indian vocal music, martial arts, cookery, etc and promotes associations such as the Scouts and Guides, NCC, Cubs and BulBuls, Nature Club, Debate Club, Interact Club and Juvenoptimist.
