In 2020, he was appointed chairman of President Donald Trump’s 1776 Commission, established to restore an understanding of the history and founding principles of education in the United States. A widely read and respected columnist of several national newspapers, magazines and periodicals on issues of public policy, history and political theory, Dr. Arnn has authored three non-fiction books: Liberty and Learning: The Evolution of American Education (2004); The Founders’ Key: The Divine and Natural Connection between the Declaration and the Constitution and What We Risk by Losing It (2012); and Churchill’s Trial: Winston Churchill and the Salvation of Free Government (2015). The official biography of Winston Churchill is the largest biography of its genre, and under Dr. Arnn’s direction, publication of its 23rd and final volume was completed in 2019.

“Education is the most important statement we make for the future. Although it may not seem the most urgent in the present, finally it is the most urgent priority of any nation or community. It contains our authoritative statements of what we are and ought to be,” says Dr. Arnn.

Looking ahead, Dr. Arnn believes there’s high potential for educational co-operation between the world’s oldest and most populous democracies. “India is a young, thriving, free country. Indo-US co-operation is the most important opportunity for the future of the world. Our two nations are very different, but also alike in this decisive respect: We share a common commitment to democracy and humanity.”

For his deep scholarship, continuous service to education and commitment to civil rights of citizens of the United States and beyond, the Board of Directors and Editors of EducationWorld are privileged to confer our Lifetime Achievement in Education Leadership Award 2023-24 on Dr. Larry P. Arnn.
