THE BOAED OF DIRECTORS AND Editors of EducationWorld are especially proud that we have prevailed upon the globe-trotting Shomie Ranjan Das, a consultant to 76 schools, education foundations and corporations in several countries around the world, to be with us here tonight to accept the EducationWorld Lifetime Achievement Award 2014 for extraordinary service to the development and upgradation of Indian education.
This indefatigable teacher, principal and education consultant™s career began when he was appointed physics teacher at the globally-renowned Gordonstoun School, Scotland in 1958 ” after graduating from St. Xavier™s College, Calcutta and Emmanuel College, Cambridge ” where he was inter alia tutor to Prince Charles. Subsequently, he served with distinction as headmaster of several top-ranked legacy boarding schools including Mayo College, Ajmer (1968-74), Lawrence School, Sanawar (1974-88), and The Doon School, Dehradun (1988-96), playing a major role in developing these institutions into high-quality, globally-comparable boarding schools.
After retiring as headmaster of The Doon School in 1996, Shomie began a second innings as a professional education consultant advising school managements on ways and means to upgrade institutional infrastructure; serving on the governing boards of several schools; writing physics textbooks, and providing advisory and consultancy services to philanthropic organisations, governments and school promoters and trustees in India and abroad. During the past 18 years, Shomie has built a portfolio of 76 clients in India and abroad. Among them: Sanskriti School, Delhi; the Chandbagh School, Nepal; International Indian Schools in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and Jubail (Saudi Arabia); Cheltenham College, UK; Siam International School, Bangkok; City Schools, Pakistan; and the Shell Group of Companies, UK/Holland.
For his extraordinary nurturance and development of India™s top-ranked legacy boarding schools and for upgrading school education in neighbouring countries in South Asia, the Middle East and beyond, the Board of Directors and Editors of EducationWorld are privileged to present Shomie Ranjan Das the EducationWorld Lifetime Achievement in Education Leadership Award 2014 and induct him into the Hall of Fame of Indian Education.
