The LSAT India 2021 examinations, which is conducted by the global Law School Admission Council (LSAC) will be held from May 29 instead of June 14, the LSAC said.
The council has preponed the exam in view of the deferment of CBSE-XII, ISC and all major state board Class XII examinations because of the upsurge in Covid-19 cases in the country.
The LSAC has said that the decision to conduct the test early has been taken to avoid overlapping LSAT dates with the Class XII board exams.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) and many state boards who deferred their Class XII board examinations have said that the revised dates of conducting the examinations will be announced after reviewing the Covid-19 situation in June.
The LSAT will be held over multiple slots from May 29 to June 2, the council said.
This decision will help Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) and other law colleges and universities which accept LSAT scores for admitting students to their undergraduate and postgraduate courses to complete the admissions process in the law courses for the 2021-22 session in the month of June itself.
“When board exams and all other tests are simply getting postponed and cancelled in the country creating an uncertain environment in higher education, LSAC advancing the LSAT–India Test to 29th May is a great relief for law aspirants and parents. Law aspirants will be free from their entrance exam burden and focus on their 12th board exams expected in the coming months,” Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, founding vice-chancellor, O.P. Jindal Global University and dean of Jindal Global Law School,” said in a press release.
Satyendra Singh Tomar, assistant registrar, JIS University, a private university in Kolkata which admits students to its three-year and five-year LLB programmes using LSAT scores said the institute has been informed by the LSAC about advancing the LSAT-India 2021 exam.
“We are happy that the LSAT will take place early. In view of the increase in number of Covid-19 cases, the boards have deferred the Class XII exams till June. It would have been difficult for students if the LSAT was held in June . This will also help us to conduct the process of admitting students to our law courses in a systematic manner,” Tomar told EducationWorld.
At least 60 prestigious law schools and universities across India have announced that they would use LSAT- India scores for admitting students.
In a communication to the students, the LSAC said: “Due to uncertainty of the date for the Board exam, which will not be announced until at least June 1, LSAC Global felt it was unfair for the current class of law school aspirants to have to put their exam preparations on hold. Most importantly, the date change assures students that the exams will not fall on concurrent dates, giving students the flexibility to adequately prepare for both examinations.”
LSAT- India aims to assess the critical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills that are needed for students to succeed in the legal profession.
