Namya Joshi, a 16-year-old tech prodigy and student of Sat Paul Mittal School, Ludhiana, has been chosen to deliver the keynote address at a major global edtech conference in London, which will bring together over 30,000 educators, innovators, and changemakers from around the world.
Namya will lead two sessions at Bett UK in January of the next year. She will discuss why game-based learning is essential for social-emotional development and how to create engaging game-based lesson plans.
Recognized as a “Top Tech Savvy Student” in India and a global teacher at the age of 16, Namya became interested in Minecraft when she realized that computer games could also serve as educational tools.
“I can’t wait to connect with the global edtech community at the show and share ideas on how video games can aid children’s learning. I firmly believe that we all have knowledge to share, and Bett is one of the most inspiring learning networks,” she commented.
Following her principle of “#EachOneTeachTen,” Joshi has mentored and trained over 15,000 teachers and students in creating game-based lessons for classrooms. She has been a strong advocate for girls in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields. She was officially appointed as a Minecraft Student Ambassador by Microsoft, achieved top certifications from Adobe, authored a bestselling book, and delivered TED talks.
Namya was recently named one of the top 50 finalists for the 2023 Chegg.org Global Student Prize worth GBP 100,000. In 2021, she received the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar.
Louisa Hunter, Bett Portfolio Director, praised Joshi’s incredible creativity in changing how students and teachers learn. She highlighted the importance of Bett as a global meeting place for educators, changemakers, and edtech innovators to exchange ideas and find solutions to enhance technology’s role in education.
The Bett conference is scheduled for January 24-26, 2024, and will feature more speakers in the coming months, including Jason Arday, Professor of Sociology of Education at the University of Cambridge. He is one of the youngest individuals ever appointed to a full Professorship at Oxbridge and holds the distinction of being the youngest black person appointed to a Professorial Chair.
