In a landmark moment at Semicon India 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the first 25 “Made in India” semiconductor chips, underscoring the country’s drive towards self-reliance in advanced technology.
Among the chips launched was a Programmable Gain Amplifier (PGA) IC chip, designed by Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Technology (VESIT), an autonomous institute affiliated with the University of Mumbai. Fabricated at SCL, Mohali, using a 180 nm CMOS node, the PGA chip showcases VESIT’s indigenous design capabilities. It is suited for high-tech instrumentation, medical equipment, and defence applications.

Industry partner Panache Digilife will manufacture advanced electronic instruments using the chip, contributing directly to India’s growing electronics manufacturing sector. This achievement makes VESIT the first private engineering institute from Maharashtra to be recognised under Category-I of the Government’s Chips to Startup (C2S) Programme, positioning it as a key contributor to India’s Semiconductor Mission.
“We are incredibly proud to see our faculty’s hard work recognised on such a prestigious platform. This milestone reflects our commitment to fostering innovation and shaping the next generation of engineers who will lead India’s technological future,” said B. L. Boolani, Managing Trustee, VESIT.
VESIT has also designed two additional chips under development within the C2S framework, reinforcing its role in strengthening academia–industry collaboration and advancing the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
