The administration in Maharashtra’s Latur district plans an extensive tree planting campaign involving gram panchayats, schools, and other institutions over the next few months, an official announced on Tuesday.
By May 30, spots for tree planting will be identified in villages and urban areas, with seeds collected from schools, gram panchayats, municipal councils, primary health centers, and anganwadis to establish a ‘seed bank’, the official stated.
Following Collector Varsha Thakur-Ghuge’s instructions, saplings will be planted on June 5 for World Environment Day and in schools on June 15, marking the beginning of the academic year, the official added.
During Agriculture Week from July 1 to 7, gram panchayats will plant a minimum of 200 saplings on farmland embankments and promote bamboo and fruit cultivation, the official concluded.
