Maharashtra: Minister Allocates Rs 260 Cr for Mumbai’s Marathi Bhasha Bhavan

Maharashtra Minister Deepak Kesarkar declared a substantial allocation of Rs 260 crore for the establishment of a Marathi language complex in Marine Lines, located in the southern part of Mumbai. This announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the ‘Vishwa Marathi Sammelan 2024,’ held in Vashi, Navi Mumbai.

The proposed Marathi Bhasha Bhavan in Marine Lines represents a significant stride in consolidating and enhancing efforts for the preservation and promotion of the Marathi language. Minister Kesarkar emphasized the government’s commitment to cultural spaces by outlining plans for a Maharashtra Bhavan in Navi Mumbai to cater to literary figures and a dedicated bhavan in Wai, Satara, in memory of Tarkatirtha Pt. Laxman Shastri Joshi.

Furthermore, Kesarkar disclosed agreements with three countries aimed at facilitating contributions to support language promotion initiatives. Additionally, a dedicated annual budget of Rs 50 crore has been outlined specifically for the dissemination of the Marathi language.
