Excellent summary
Your cover story ‘UDISE+ 2023-24: Dire Condition of World’s Largest Child Population’ (EW February) is a comprehensive even if poignant analysis of the dismal state of India’s K-12 education system. The author adeptly interprets the extensive data presented in the UDISE+ Report 2023-24, shedding light on the progress made and the challenges that persist in Indian education.
While lauding improvements in school infrastructure, the story rightly flags poor student retention rates in secondary education. Thanks for this excellent summary of the UDISE+ report which is an invaluable resource for educators, policymakers, and stakeholders invested in the future of India.

Pride & gratitude
We are truly honoured and grateful to your sample respondents for ranking Vidyasagar Preschool, Hebbal #3 among proprietary preschools in Bengaluru. Also to EW’s Grand Jury for ranking us #4 nationally and #1 in Karnataka and Bengaluru under the category of Social and Emotional Learning. These awards have made our entire Sagar community proud.
Moreover thanks for organising the excellent EW India Preschool Rankings Awards ceremony in Hyderabad, as also the educators visit to Chowmahalla Palace and Charminar — such a wonderful experience!

Disappointing & vengeful
Your Education News from New Delhi (EW February) was a disappointment to say the least. Firstly, the respectable UGC chairman’s name is mis-spelt as Madadala Jagadish Kumar instead of Prof. Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar. Secondly, the tone in the first half of the article against Prof. Jagadesh Kumar and prime minister Narendra Modi is vengeful and has little to do with the new UGC draft regulations.
Looking forward to more focused and unbiased writing.

ECE impact recognition
Congratulations on completing 25 years of EducationWorld! Wishing the entire team many more milestones and celebrations ahead.
I want to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to the entire EW team for your efforts in bringing preschool stakeholders together to celebrate our presence and impact in early childhood education.
I especially thank EW for recognising Teeny Boppers among the Top 10 preschools in the country. The EW India Preschool Awards ceremony held special significance as it was a moment of professional pride. I am grateful for this honor and for the unwavering efforts of EducationWorld in recognising and uplifting the preschool education sector.

Shocking revelation
Your Education News from Karnataka ‘Slipping advantage’ (EW February) was a shocking revelation.
It is hard to digest that learning outcomes of children in the IT capital, according to the latest ASER report, are worse than of children in BIMARU states.
Time to pull up our socks!

High price of science neglect
I fully agree with the views expressed in your Expert Comment column ‘Developing national scientific temper’ (EW February). Prof. Somak Raychaudhury rightly recommends the urgent need for educators in India to introduce scientific pedagogies in classrooms to stimulate young minds to question, explore and experiment. It’s of utmost importance to involve students in science in their formative years through experiential learning. At the same time, the larger community also needs to be exposed to modern scientific thinking through social media, citizen science projects and other outreach programmes.
As the author highlights, we are paying a high price for post-independence education policies, limiting research and development to a few elite institutions and forcing textbook-based pedagogies on children and youth.
