Man swindles educational institution of Rs 10 lakh for school approval

April 15, 2024

According to police reports, a man allegedly defrauded an educational institution located in Maharashtra’s Thane district, extracting more than Rs 10 lakh under false pretenses. The institution, situated in Dombivli, aimed to secure government approval to establish junior colleges within its existing infrastructure.

An official from the Manpada police station revealed that the institution operates two schools—one in Sagaon and the other in Diva—providing education up to Class 10. Expressing the desire to expand its educational offerings to include Classes 11 and 12, the institution submitted an application to the state education department.

To navigate the bureaucratic process, they sought the assistance of Dhanaji Janrao, who demanded a fee of Rs 16 lakh for securing the necessary permissions. Between March 2021 and June 2022, the institution disbursed Rs 10.62 lakh to Janrao.

However, despite their financial commitment, Janrao failed to deliver on his promises, offering only vague responses and attributing delays to the change in government. Frustrated by the lack of progress, one of the institution’s trustees filed a formal complaint against Janrao, prompting the registration of an FIR at the Manpada police station.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are diligently probing the matter to bring the perpetrator to justice and safeguard the institution’s interests.
